• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Parris Afton Bonds -- A PSYCHEDELIC TRIP INTO HORROR : I read Descent into Ulthoa almost straight through ~ and it is has to equate to a psychedelic trip into horror. The narrator, never described but as palpable as goose bumps, yanks the reader into his quest to find his twin brother, along with a girlfriend, gone missing for a decade in an 80,000-acre eerie forest in upstate New York. By the time Bonnet's gripping story releases the reader, a mind-blowing journey of twists and turns has been taken, and I, for one, am quite ready to risk another of Bonnet's riveting reads. What I was not prepared for was how quickly things turned in the book. As soon as the momentum picks up, it DOES NOT STOP. The characters are rich and full. He's written believable characters that are easy to identify with. I think I've moved from "mild fan" to "rabid fan" status due to Descent Into Ulthoa. I did most of the reading before bed and it led to some weird dreams for sure. It was creeeeeeeepy - but in a wonderfully literary way. Great characters, great plot. Highly recommend.
